Pupils at Sedgefield Hardwick Primary School celebrated World Book Day with an imaginative, story-themed adventure inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Children across the school were drawn into a magical challenge set in Wonderland after the mischievous Queen of Hearts stole Alice’s precious storybook and threatened to banish reading forever. With the Queen and her guards distracted, pupils took on the role of heroes, searching the school grounds for scattered pieces of the missing storybook.

As the adventure unfolded, pupils worked together to recover the hidden pages and restore stories and reading to Wonderland. Their determination paid off as the final pieces were found and the Queen’s plan was defeated, bringing peace back to the kingdom and allowing reading to be enjoyed once again.

Meanwhile, the school’s youngest pupils also marked the occasion with a special visit to their local library. During the trip, Reception children explored the library, selected books to bring back to school and revisited their learning about people who help us in the community. The visit included a surprise appearance from a local police officer, adding to an already memorable experience.

The activities provided a fun and engaging way for pupils to celebrate World Book Day, highlighting the joy of reading and the power of stories to spark imagination and bring learning to life.
