Vision

Holistic Early Years experiences equip pupils with knowledge and skills that enable the fulfilment of their potential. Committed, responsive and invested adults skilfully optimise learning opportunities and make the utmost effort to mitigate the early challenges that some pupils experience before beginning nursery. Pupils undertake independent exploration to develop self-regulatory skills, self-confidence and competence, all within an enriching learning environment, supported by highly trained adults who ‘scaffold’ and extend learning through a balance of teaching styles.

Aims

At Sedgefield Hardwick our Early Years curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • are considered unique with their emerging needs identified and supported through a Personalised Pathway
  • form positive relationships with adults and peers
  • have access to a rich indoor and outdoor learning environment
  • are supported by skilled adults who teach new knowledge and skills through a balance of facilitative and instructional teaching styles
  • are immersed in a language rich environment where they feel safe and secure

Principles

Learning across the curriculum follows our Instil, Inspire, Innovate philosophy which has been derived from the theory of learning by Oliver Wendell-Holmes

There are intellects, one-storey intellects, two-storey and three-storey with intellects with skylights…
